Lodging on the Belize Reef

A great place to stay on the islands of the Belize reef is Glover’s Atoll Resort. It is located on one of the small islets of Glover’s Atoll. Do not expect luxury accommodations. You can bring your own tent, or stay in one of the open-air cottages. You can bring your own food, or eat in their small “restaurant”. Glover’s Atoll Resort is very inexpensive, and it feels like a true “Robinson Crusoe” experience. Snorkeling is possible in literally any direction from the islet, and you can basically choose your water depth. Scuba diving is also possible outside the shallow waters of the lagoon, and a short boat trip takes you to a very deep drop off and an amazing wall dive. There is a boat that makes a weekly trip from Sittee River Village or Dangriga on the mainland, or you can arrange for a special charter (at a higher cost). I’ve spent a week here on multiple occasions, and you just can’t get a less expensive, more authentic experience of Caribbean atoll life.
